BUY WISE LIQUOR OUTLET
NANUET NY
NOVEMBER 15, 1008 -- 4:58PM

NO STANDING ZONE

First of all I have to tell you that I love the guys in Buy Wise.
Their prices on wine are at least 25% less than any other liquor
store in Rockland County and they will match any advertised price.
Sadly they are closed on Sundays.

What I don't get are these drivers. The posted sign clearly says NO STANDING the YELLOW paint clearly says, NO PARKING but all these people think that they're more important than the other hundred-plus other customers that are also shopping.

Six (above) and soon to be seven (below) cars illegally parked
in a NO STANDING zone.

You decide; MORONS or just plain MENACE!

Insurance Rates Go Up While we Drive Less

According to a story in today's New York Times the automobile insurance industry is seeking an overall 13% rate increase despite American drivers traveling billions of fewer miles.

I view this as typical corporate greed and there is no excuse for it.  Gasoline is going for record prices and we're all curtailing our mileage, so why should rates increase?

Here in New York, as with most states, we're required to buy insurance to register a car and if you let said insurance lapse there are stiff fines to be paid. Luckily we're also one of the few states that require rate hikes to be approved before they go into effect.

Stupid Cop Tricks

I've got a new hero; Jimmy Justice. Jimmy wanders through New York City armed with a video camera and confronts our civil servants when they violate the traffic regulations. Once a New York City Board of Education employee smashed his camera-then had to replace it.

You can find his videos by searching Jimmy Justice on YouTube

Here's one of my favorites:

Red Audi Menace

As I was driving down Route 303 en route to Commuter Lot J at the Palisades Center Mall I glanced in my mirror, as any good driver should, and there was no-one to be seen. Moments later I noticed a red Audi closing fast.

For that car to appear in my rear view so quickly he had to be traveling far in excess of the 40MPH posted speed limit of that section of Route 303.

As I slowed for the green arrow to turn right onto Palisades Center Drive he was following so close that I couldn't see the car's grille, then after the turn, he passed me. The problem with his pass was that he used the LEFT TURN ONLY lane designated for entering the New York State Thruway.  As he accelerated far in excess of the posted speed (again) he blew through the intersection ignoring the Left Turn Only Arrow traffic signal of that lane.

I dropped my wife at the bus stop as he parked his car but as I was leaving the lot he had the audacity to step out in front of my car and try to stop me. As I swerved around him he threatened me with a single-digit salute. In my rear view mirror I saw him wave for me to come back.

Like I was the guy misbehaving on a public thoroughfare or would bother to waste my time having an argument with such an individual?

I wonder where the unmitigated gaul of these types of drivers is born. I was driving the posted limit, using turn signals and obeying the published RULES OF THE ROAD yet I was in his way. Why do these types of drivers behave this way on public streets because you know that they would never pull an act like that on line at the fast food joint or the bank.  Additionally, it was obvious from the exhaust note of the Audi and the after-market accessories it sports that this driver also flaunts the NYS vehicle code.

Where are the Clarkstown Police during commuting hours when the most infractions occur? (Though you can always find one hiding in the back of the commuter lot doing paperwork shortly before shift change.) A weekly speed trap or permanent radar camera on that section of Route 303 would raise enough cash eliminate a town property tax increase and pay the cost of repaving route 303 at that intersection which ripples from the cars and trucks slamming on their brakes for the red light.

Red Audi driver - you are a Roadway Menace!

Welcome to Roadway Menace

Are you tired of inept and belligerent road users? Drivers that think the asphalt belongs to them alone? Drivers that try to run you down in a crosswalk? Drivers that park in the NO PARKING FIRE ZONE because thier laundry is more important than yours? Drivers that follow too closely or pass you on the right?

Well here's the place you'll be able to turn those Roadway Menaces in!
